Probably, 1 percent of us can sleep short and suffer no consequences. Many of us don't get the sweet spot of 7 to 9, but recent data suggests that consistency of sleep and wake times may help us undo some of the badness of insufficient sleep. Here's what I recently wrote about the topic:
