Point taken. Fortunately, it is not simply unmasking: We are making genuine progress in survival for diseases such as breast cancer. At one point, mortality from breast CA was dropping about 2 percent per year! Screening also plays a role in driving down mortality (for example for prostate cancer, breast cancer, colorectal cancer, cervix cancer, and most recently lung CA). Lung cancer screening is helping lower mortality in that realm, as is the rise of immunotherapy (for example for melanoma, where the results have been breathtaking, lung cancer, and others). Advances in management for the most common cancers are really picking up in pace. Now if we could do better on the risk-reduction/prevention side (diet, physical activity, weight, not smoking, not drinking too much, getting enough sleep) we could do so much more. Thanks for your spot-on observation, and for joining. As for me, I am off to a HIIT workout!
