I am not a big fan of absolutes and would prefer to give risk estimates. For alcohol, if I were going to offer an overall view, it is this: Excessive use is associated with a shorter life. I hope you continue to enjoy your alcohol in moderation. The Blue Zone folks do many things that we may not do, ranging from having close circles of friends, better diets, more day-to-day physical activity, and more. It is hard to look at any one element and say “bad,” although I will take a leap and say smoking cigarettes is… Back to alcohol, the key in the referenced Blue Zones is that folks in the original four Blue Zones drink in moderation. I don’t think though, that you can say, well they drink so that is why they live longer. Still, driving is inherently dangerous, but I do it happily.
